Morgan O'Driscoll Irish & International Art Auction 21st October 2019

30 22 Peter Pearson (b.1950) College Green, Dublin (2005) signed lower right and dated ‘05 oil on canvas 61 x 82cm (24 x 32.25in) Provenance: Private Collection Exhibited: Adam’s, Dublin - Peter Pearson Exhibition, October 2005 (label verso) Given his record as a passionate conservationist, it’s no surprise to learn that Peter Pearson first studied art history, before moving on to art per se. But really, he has always been honing in on the interests and obsessions that seem to have been innate in him since childhood, centring on an appreciation of the built environment and the importance of preserving it. He manages to paint contemporary Dublin with one foot in the modern world and one in its Georgian heyday. And he is not making it up: that is the nature of Dublin, and he does his utmost to express it pictorially. €1,500-2,000 (£1,327-1,769)
