Soon after he had made studies of Yeats there was, he later said, a certain inevitability about the prospect of approach another giant, James Joyce. They were, after all, fellow Dubliners. Beckett became the next part of a literary trinity that provided inspiration for some of le Brocquy’s most celebrated works.
