How does bidding work?
Through Morgan O’Driscoll, you can enjoy the excitement of bidding in an In Room (Live) auction from the comfort of your home. You can place an absentee bid before the auction begins, allowing you to get in on the action ahead of live bidding that takes place once the auction kicks off. You can utilise the Telephone bidding system where a member of the Morgan O’Driscoll team will bid on your behalf, whilst talking to you over the phone. Or once a Live auction begins, utilising the Invaluable website (from the link on our website), bidders gain access to an online bidding console so that you can follow and participate in the auction in real time.
In the case of a Timed Online Auction, where there is no live bidding in a room, you can browse through the online catalogue at www.morganodriscoll.com Register for an Account and then any item that you wish to bid on, simply click on the Place Bid button, you can either place a single bid or enter a maximum bid. If you place a maximum bid of € 500.00, say on an item that already has a bid of 100.00 on it, the system will place a bid for you starting at 120.00, if the other bidder places no further bids in the system, you will have the winning bid at that stage. The system will increase your bids as other bidders place a bid. If you have been outbid the system will email you (or you can check at any time), you can then place another bid. Are there fees for bidding online?
Creating a Morgan O’Driscoll account is free. Please note that you will be responsible for fees for items won in auctions that you have participated in. Morgan O’Driscoll charge’s a buyer's premium at the rate of 20% on the hammer price plus VAT at 23%. (applied only to the commission) on all individual lots.
For example on a hammer price of €1,000, the Buyer's Premium amounts to €200 and the VAT on the Buyer's Premium amounts to €46, giving a total amount due of €1,246.
(A buyer’s premium is an additional fee that a winning bidder is required to pay above the auction price) as well as other shipping, handling, and storage fees.
Can I view a Live auction online without placing bids?
You are certainly welcome to watch a Live auction without bidding, but we hope that if you find an interesting item up for sale, that you will consider going ahead and submitting a bid.
